The LT-4200S is an Iridium Certus® 200 GMDSS satellite communications system, engineered and manufactured by Lars Thrane to meet every standard and certification required of GMDSS communications equipment, including MED and Wheelmark approval. It delivers the regulated safety services a vessel needs to sail compliant — and the everyday connectivity a crew needs to stay in touch.
Built on the same Certus® 200 platform as the LT-4200, the LT-4200S provides Distress Alert, Safety Voice, and Maritime Safety Information (MSI), alongside the Ship Security Alert System (SSAS) and Long Range Identification & Tracking (LRIT). With 100% global coverage through the Iridium® network, distress and safety communication is assured across Sea Areas A1, A2, and A3 — anywhere on the world’s oceans.
The system pairs a control unit, handset, and antenna unit, linked by a single coaxial cable allowing up to 150 metres of separation — so the antenna goes wherever it has the clearest view of the sky. Beyond safety, the LT-4200S serves as a capable primary communications hub, offering three high-quality voice channels and IP data up to 176 kbps up/downfor ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore connectivity, all at competitive Iridium airtime rates.
Built for the harsh reality of life at sea, the LT-4200S operates reliably from –40°C to +55°C. Installation is simple, with everything included in the box: mount the control unit on a bracket or flush mount, and the antenna on a 2.0″ stainless pole mount. The large 4.3″ TFT display gives clear day-and-night operation, while the built-in webserver makes service and configuration straightforward. More than 40 years of engineering experience are built into every unit.
Type-approved for GMDSS service across Sea Areas A1, A2, and A3, with MED and Wheelmark certification. The LT-4200S meets the mandatory safety requirements for compliant maritime operation worldwide.
