The world’s first Iridium GMDSS terminal — distress, safety, and everyday connectivity in one SOLAS-approved system, with 100% global coverage.
In 2018, the IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee recognised Iridium as a Recognised Mobile Satellite Service (RMSS) for GMDSS — an alternative to Inmarsat C, and the first truly pole-to-pole option for maritime distress and safety. The LT-3100S is the system that made it real: developed and manufactured by Lars Thrane, it remains the first and only Iridium GMDSS terminal available, meeting every standard and certification required of GMDSS communications equipment, including MED and Wheelmark approval.
The LT-3100S delivers Distress Alert, Safety Voice, and Maritime Safety Information (MSI), alongside the Ship Security Alert System (SSAS) and Long Range Identification & Tracking (LRIT). With 100% global coveragethrough the Iridium® network, distress and safety communication is assured across Sea Areas A1, A2, and A3 — anywhere on the world’s oceans, including the poles.
Built on the proven LT-3100 platform, the system pairs a control unit, handset, and antenna unit, linked by a single coaxial cable allowing up to 500 metres of separation — so the antenna goes wherever it has the clearest view of the sky. Beyond safety, it serves as a capable primary communications system, offering voice, SMS, data, and vessel tracking at competitive Iridium airtime rates.
Built for the harsh reality of life at sea, the LT-3100S operates reliably from –40°C to +55°C. Installation is simple, with everything included in the box: mount the control unit on a bracket or flush mount, and the antenna on a 1.5″ or 2.0″ pole. The large 4.3″ TFT display gives clear day-and-night operation, while the built-in webserver makes service and configuration straightforward. More than 40 years of engineering experience are built into every unit.
Distress and safety communication assured across Sea Areas A1, A2, and A3 — with genuine pole-to-pole reach over the Iridium® network, including the high latitudes and polar routes that other systems can't cover.
Type-approved for GMDSS service across Sea Areas A1, A2, and A3, with MED and Wheelmark certification — meeting the mandatory safety requirements for compliant maritime operation worldwide.
Powered by the Iridium® network, the LT-3100 delivers true pole-to-pole global coverage with competitive airtime rates — reliable connectivity on any ocean, in any conditions.
Distress Alert and Distress Call, Safety Calling and Safety Messaging, plus Maritime Safety Information (MSI) — the complete GMDSS safety toolkit, delivered over 100% global Iridium coverage.
Integrated Ship Security Alert System (SSAS) and Long Range Identification & Tracking (LRIT) bring security alerting and position reporting into the same certified system.
Support for remote Alarm Panels, a GMDSS Printer, and Bridge Alert Management (BAM) — so the LT-3100S fits cleanly into the vessel's wider bridge and safety architecture.
